Update with Getty in IS101

IS101-3205, Spring 2025 has definitely been a challenge for me, it’s a lot of work, but once I complete it I feel good because I learned a skill I didn’t know about. Also, returning to school from over six years ago, working full-time and being a full-time student made me realize I don’t have a day off. If I’m not stressed about one class it’s the other three, but I’m not that far behind, I just need to get ahead.

In the future I need to actually use my planner, write assignments and due dates because keeping them in my head isn’t working.

How I prepared for the MO-110 Word certification exam, I honestly just kept working on my word practice forms. Not going to lie I had to redo them five times each till I got over 80%, so in doing so it helped me instantly remember a lot because I kept practicing. Also, I would work on it when I had the most energy. Especially when I was motivated since I was feeling sick for almost a whole month.

(4.5.2) Page and Column Breaks has been my favorite so far. I always read articles and signs and I always wondered how do they do those columns so perfect and pretty without messing up the whole paper. Once I learned, it was so easy, I’ll never forget that skill.

Overall, it’s been challenging, I get mad sometimes when I don't get 100% but I love the outcome when I do. I’ve learned skills that is not only to pass this class but that I will use in my daily life for school and work.

  1. Getty >>> Challenges!

I think you are doing well returning to higher education after six years while working full-time and being a full-time college student :-)

I like page and column breaks too. An even cooler feature is Table in Word.

Very glad to hear you feel good when you learn a skill that you didn't have before. Even more glad to hear you will use the skills from this class in your daily life for school and work ^_^

  2. Hey Geraldine,

I really admire your determination, going back to school after six years, working full-time, and still managing four classes is seriously impressive. It’s totally understandable to feel overwhelmed, but it’s clear you’re giving it your all, and that effort is going to pay off big time.

I also love that you stuck with the Word practice forms and didn’t give up even after redoing them multiple times. That kind of persistence is how those skills really stick, and it’s awesome that you found a rhythm that works for you, especially with everything else going on and even while feeling sick. You’re stronger than you give yourself credit for!

Page and column breaks were one of my favorites too. It’s such a cool feeling when something you always wondered about suddenly clicks, and now it’s a skill you’ll have forever.

You’re doing great, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Keep going!! You’ve got this! ^-^

  5. Working full-time and being a full-time student is quite the challenge but if you can do that, I feel like you can accomplish anything. Column breaks and page breaks were something I had no idea about until this course and it has been so helpful in my other classes.

  7. Hi Getty! Your dedication is inspirational, being able to balance work, school, and a personal life is no easy challenge, especially coming back to school, so hats off to you! Honestly seeing the 100% is such a rewarding experience, Yeah column breaks was honestly surprising to, I use to do it manually, and man is that such a headache. But hey, I hope once this is all over you can get the well deserved break! We are almost to the finish line!

  8. Hello Geraldine!

You got this! I’ve only been doing part-time (3 courses) with a full-time job. I could imagine how much work four classes can be, including working 40-plus hours. That’s tough, but man, you’re doing it, and that deserves a pat on the back since it’s been six years since you’ve been in a school setting.

The planner idea is a great way to get organized!

  9. You’re doing an amazing job balancing so much full-time work, school, and no days off is no joke. It’s awesome that you’re pushing through and still making progress. I totally relate to trying to keep due dates in your head it gets overwhelming fast. Practicing until you get it right is such a great strategy, and it’s cool that it helped you remember everything more naturally. Page and column breaks were a game-changer for me too! Keep going you’ve already come so far, and your effort is clearly paying off!

  11. Hey Geraldine, I need to use a planner too. I am always buying the prettiest ones and using them for maybe a week or two, but I eventually stop using them and I can't even say why. You are definitely busy with managing school and work, but I am sure you will finish strong.

You’re showing tremendous perseverance juggling full‑time work, a comeback to school after six years, and your courses-huge props for that! Embracing a planner and drilling your Word practice until you hit mastery is a smart move, and mastering page and column breaks will pay off big time. Keep riding that momentum, you’re building skills that’ll serve you far beyond this class!
